Cultivating Recruiter Relationships
With the changing job market, many companies are finding themselves inundated with resumes. But when it comes to sorting through them for promising prospects, HR departments are discovering that few self-submitted candidates are top-tier, and even fewer are likely to be a perfect fit with their company’s needs.
This is why Lee Cook, Director of Recruiting Services at Sterling Management Resources, says that now, more than ever, a strong relationship with a professional placement agency can help. Like any business partnership, getting the best results from a recruiting agency requires choosing wisely and developing the relationship. Cook offers a number of tips to help employers find the right recruiter and cultivate a connection that will yield exceptional results.
Finding a Recruiting Partner
Do Your Due Diligence: To select good recruiters, employers should “go to market” and do their homework. Cook suggests researching recruiter reputations, doing reference checks on the firms, seeking information about placements and asking clients about the services rendered. Once the information is gathered, analyze it to determine which firms can best serve the company’s goals.
Consider an RFP: For some companies it may make sense to put out an RFP (request for proposal). This will draw in a number of agencies eager to work with the organization. Make sure each provides all the information needed so the employer or hiring partner can do their due diligence before adding them to the approved vendor list.
